Economic Highlights

In the US, all eyes will be on February’s CPI inflation data, due on Wednesday. Market analysts are predicting a rise in consumer prices, reflecting the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) stalled progress on tackling inflation. Across the border, the Bank of Canada convenes for its latest monetary policy meeting. Officials are expected to proceed with another 25 basis point rate cut, should the current US tariffs on Canadian goods remain in place.

Across the Atlantic, the UK releases its January GDP data on Friday. Forecasters expect a third consecutive increase, though at a much slower pace than late last year. The country’s labour market conditions will also be under the spotlight, with the REC/KPMG recruitment survey due on Monday. Over in mainland Europe, Germany, France, and Spain each publish their final inflation data, while industrial production figures are scheduled for both Germany and the wider eurozone.

Turning to the Asia-Pacific region, where Japan’s final Q4 GDP estimates take centre stage. A strong report may support the case for further monetary policy tightening. Moreover, India’s inflation and industrial production reports could be worth noting, while South Korea’s unemployment figures will be closely watched after an unexpected decline in January.
