Economic Highlights
In the US, it is expected to be a busy week of scheduled releases. Markets await updates on Q1 GDP, May’s core PCE price index, and durable goods orders. Personal income and spending figures are also due, alongside new and existing home sales. Consumer confidence data rounds off the week, offering fresh insight into household sentiment amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures. Over in Canada, inflation figures for May will be published, with recent PMI data pointing to increased price pressures linked to tariffs.
Across Europe, early inflation estimates from France and Spain will headline Friday’s releases, following the HCOB flash PMI results earlier in the week. The data is set to provide a clearer view of price trends in the short term. In Germany, the focus turns to business sentiment, with the Ifo Business Climate and GfK Consumer Confidence indicators offering additional forward-looking insights. Elsewhere, in the UK, detailed first-quarter GDP numbers are due, providing a more detailed picture of its latest economic performance, after recent PMI readings indicated weakening momentum.
Lastly, in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the Bank of Thailand holds its June policy meeting, with expectations building around further rate cuts later in the year amid a soft economic outlook. Inflation data will be released in Singapore and Malaysia, with Taiwan and Singapore also reporting industrial production figures. As for Japan, the country will provide updates on retail sales and employment, while its central bank, the Bank of Japan, publishes its summary of opinions.
