Economic Highlights

In the US, June’s inflation data is the highlight release for the week, particularly as markets assess the impact of recent tariffs. Elsewhere, retail sales and industrial production figures for June are expected, with recent data pointing to stronger services performance and a manufacturing output recovery. Building permits and consumer sentiment data from the University of Michigan are also scheduled. In Canada, investor attention will be on its latest inflation figures. This upcoming release comes after recent PMI findings showed Canada’s strongest rise in prices for over a year.

Over in Europe, the UK is due to publish its June inflation figures. Recent PMI data has already suggested a slowdown in price pressures for manufacturing and services. Labour market data is also set to be released, with previous survey results revealing general weakness in terms of job numbers. Meanwhile, in Germany, the ZEW Economic Sentiment Index will offer updates relating to investor confidence, amid ongoing concerns around economic momentum in the eurozone.

Across the Asia-Pacific region, China’s Q2 GDP report is the headline economic publication, alongside industrial production and retail sales data for June. In Japan, the markets will be updated with the most recent inflation and trade figures, while Australia’s jobs report for June will also be scrutinised. Lastly, Indonesia central bank meets for its latest policy meeting. Its interest rate decision will be closely watched as regional economies continue to balance inflation control with efforts to support growth.
