Economic Highlights

In the US, investors will be closely following both the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) July meeting minutes and the annual Jackson Hole Symposium, where central bankers are expected to provide fresh policy signals. Housing data is also due this week, with existing home sales set for release. In Canada, inflation figures will attract a lot of focus after recent PMI data pointed to persistent price pressures. Meanwhile, the country’s retail sales numbers will provide an update on consumer spending trends.

Across Europe, market attention will be on UK and eurozone inflation data, along with UK retail sales. Previous PMI data for July indicated renewed UK price pressures, creating challenges for policymakers despite inflation briefly easing recently. Retail sales are also expected to soften following signs of weaker services activity. In the eurozone, July’s inflation release will be the last update before August PMI data offers an updated view of price trends.

Over in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) meets with markets expecting a possible rate cut. Elsewhere, Indonesia’s central bank decides on policy, while Japan publishes its inflation and trade figures. Lastly, GDP data will be released from Thailand, and inflation updates are due from Singapore and Malaysia, providing further insight into regional economic conditions.
