Economic Highlights
In the US, markets will be closely tracking September’s non-farm payrolls report on Friday, with expectations of a 40,000 increase in employment following last month’s weak figures. The report will be watched for signals on the Federal Reserve’s policy path after its September rate cut and guidance that further easing could follow later this year. Elsewhere, job opening, weekly claims, and the ADP employment report will offer further insight into US labour market conditions.
Over in Europe, attention shifts to the eurozone’s flash inflation release for September, with rates expected to remain close to the European Central Bank’s 2% target. Eurozone unemployment figures are also due, while the UK publishes its latest housing market data. These releases will provide a clearer picture of whether inflation pressures remain contained across the region and how labour markets and housing activity are affected the wider economic outlook.
Lastly, in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, monetary policy meetings in India and Australia are scheduled, with interest rates due to be left unchanged. In India, stronger-than-expected growth is giving the central bank scope to maintain its current stance. As for Australia, higher-than-anticipated inflation has added pressure for rates to remain on hold. Other notable APAC releases include industrial production, unemployment, and retail sales figures from Japan.
