Economic Highlights
In the US, investors will be focusing on several key speeches from Federal Reserve officials as markets look for further clues around future interest rates. There will also be notable data updates, including figures for existing and new home sales and durable goods orders. Meanwhile, in Canada, the Bank of Canada’s latest Business Outlook Survey is due, following a subdued end to the previous quarter. The country’s retail sales figures will also be released towards the end of the week.
Over in Europe, the European Central Bank will meet to set policy, with many expecting no change to interest rates, after June’s rate cut. Market consensus suggests just one more rate cut this year, possibly in September. Currently, inflation appears under control alongside moderate growth. Elsewhere, retail sales figures for the UK are due, while Germany, the eurozone’s largest economy, releases its latest consumer confidence and business sentiment indicators.
Across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the Reserve Bank of Australia publishes its July meeting minutes. This comes after the central bank held rates steady, which was a surprise for some analysts. Moving across to South Korea, the country is set to reveal its advance Q2 GDP results, providing one of the first insights into the region’s quarterly economic growth. Lastly, inflation data will also be updated across several APAC economies, including New Zealand, Hong Kong SAR, Singapore and Malaysia.
