Economic Highlights
In the US, most of the market attention will on the June Federal Reserve (Fed) meeting minutes. While the Fed held rates steady last month, the minutes may show how close policymakers are to easing. Many analysts still believe there could be a possible move in September. Meanwhile, inflation updates from Mexico and Brazil will be watched closely, while Canada’s labour market report for June will provide an update on employment conditions.
Over in Europe, the UK releases its GDP figures for May. Early indications point towards small signs of recovery following a weaker April. Higher taxes and trade barriers had impacted on the economy, but an improvement in services activity could help generate growth. Elsewhere, Germany, the largest economy in Europe, publishes its industrial production and trade data. In addition, final June inflation readings from Germany, Italy and France will be released, along with eurozone retail sales and industrial output figures.
Across the Asia-Pacific region, central banks meetings from Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Malaysia are all set to take place. With trade pressures still present, rate cuts remain a possibility as policymakers respond to slower growth. Moreover, key data releases from China include inflation and trade figures. Lastly, Singapore’s advance GDP reading for Q2 is also due this week.
