Economic Highlights
In the US, analysts will be paying close attention to what the Federal Reserve says this week. The markets remain unsure about what the future holds for inflation and interest rates, meaning any new comments could impact on prices and investor decisions. Also, March reports for durable goods orders and home sales will be released. As for Canada, retail sales and housing price data are expected. Following weak services activity in Q1, amid the ongoing US trade war, there could be a slowdown in the retail sales figures.
Across the Atlantic, the UK publishes its retail sales numbers for March. While last month’s business survey showed signs of improvement for services, many private sector job losses remained. Meanwhile, Germany is set to publish its Ifo business survey. This should offer clues into the nation’s current business confidence, particularly against the backdrop of ongoing trade problems and tariff concerns. Elsewhere, France’s business and consumer confidence data for April is due for release.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Bank Indonesia convenes for their April meeting. Bank officials could choose to hold steady on interest rates for now, with the currency remaining under pressure. Over in South Korea, the country reports its Q1 economic growth data, signalling its economic performance for the early part of 2025. Furthermore, inflation numbers are due in from Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong SAR. Lastly, Taiwan will release its industrial production and export orders.
