Economic Highlights
In the US and Canada, investors will mostly be focusing on services data, with both the ISM and S&P Global Services PMIs offering updates on business conditions in July. Also, US factory orders and trade data will be watched for clues around the ongoing tariff impact. Meanwhile, Canada’s latest employment and trade figures will give a fresh view on economic activity, after recent signs of weakness. In Mexico, inflation data and a central bank meeting are scheduled, with a further interest rate cut expected.
Over in Europe, the Bank of England is due to meet, with many analysts expecting to cut rates, amid mixed policy signals from recent economic data. The latest UK PMI pointed to slower growth and job losses, while price pressures appear to be easing slightly. In Germany, important trade data will be released, coming shortly after recent PMI data that indicated stronger goods exports. Added to this, the Eurozone publishes retail sales figures, which will help assess consumer demand across the region.
Moving on to the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, China’s trade and inflation data is the headline release, while Australia’s trade figures will also be closely followed. Elsewhere, India’s central bank meets and is expected to keep rates steady. GDP updates from Indonesia and the Philippines, along with inflation data from South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand should offer greater clues about current regional trends. Lastly, markets will also review the minutes from the Bank of Japan’s recent meeting in order to track the potential future policy direction.
