Let’s take a look at the FXTS Weekly Market Preview for the upcoming week of 5th-9th May 2025. Discover the key events of the week ahead, including economic data releases and the quarterly reports of publicly listed companies.
Welcome back to our latest Weekly Market Preview of the week ahead. Once again, we will be looking into the biggest economic releases and company earnings reports expected over the coming days. Last week, Big Tech firms Meta, Microsoft, Amazon and Apple all reported better-than-expected Q1 results. Now attention turns to quarterly figures from the likes of Palantir, AMD, Arm and Embridge. Read on for all the details.
Economic Highlights
In the US, the main focus will be on the Federal Reserve’s (Fed) May policy meeting. Despite ongoing concerns around economic growth, Fed officials are not expected to adjust interest rates. Elsewhere, the ISM Services PMI will provide a fresh update on business conditions, following recent signs of weakness in the manufacturing sector. Over the border, Canada’s trade and employment data will be in the spotlight, especially after April’s PMI indicated a sharp decline in orders and continued job losses.
Moving on to Europe and unlike the Fed, the Bank of England is expected to cut rates by 25 basis points at this week’s meeting. With the UK economy continuing to struggle with higher trade costs and signs of slower output, policymakers will be looking to support growth and prevent any further slowdowns. Meanwhile, UK industrial production and Germany’s factory orders and trade figures will be watched for the latest signs of growth in the sector.
Across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, China publishes its April trade and inflation data, offering a clearer picture of how the economy is handling recent external pressures. New Zealand’s Q1 employment report is also due for release, with market watchers on the lookout for signs of labour market resilience. Lastly, GDP and inflation figures from Indonesia and the Philippines round off a busy week for the wider APAC region.
